Test footage and Unused footage

Whilst filming we sometimes had to redo shots if the lighting or framing wasn't right. This is a video of all the times we had to change things. It also includes the usable footage we didn't put in the final product. This was due to time constraints and the fact we had two characters we had to include at the same time.

Costumes and Props

Before the filming day, I messaged everyone to let them know what to wear and what props to bring. We had all discussed this beforehand and decided what would look best, so this was just confirming for the day.

Location Recce and Risk Assessment

Description of the chosen location

Tamar Trails - Dusty/sandy mounded area with nearby derelict old buildings. Creates atmosphere of devastation.  Nearby forest area a few minutes’ walk away. Very open and well lit providing weather is reasonable.

Notes

Access

Bus stops and train stations
N/A

Parking facilities
Nearby, a minute’s walk away.

Lifts/stairs
N/A

Doorways (Width – consider equipment as well as people)
Wide gates, easy to get equipment through.

Space
Enough room (for cast/contributors, crew and necessary equipment)
Outdoor, wide open space.

Immovable objects (Are there any that will get in the frame?)
Some fences to avoid in shot and houses in the background.

Set dressing requirements (esp. for dramatic production)
Minimal – just blanket and food for Tom’s sleeping area.

Lighting
Windows (Are there blinds/curtains to minimise changes in daylight during the shoot?)

Possible lighting difference if filmed on different days due to unavoidable weather changes.
Lighting appliances (Fluorescent/tungsten? Can they be switched on and off?)
Natural light available, so no lighting appliances needed.
Plug points (If lighting kit is to be used)
N/A

Sound
Traffic noise
Possible distant traffic noise, not a major issue.

Air conditioning (If yes, can it be switched off?)
Possible wind interference.

Computers (These have a low level of hum that, if in use, will affect nearby audio recording)
N/A
Other people on location (Might people who live/work on location be disrupting the shoot?)
Public area so possible walkers and cyclists around, and maybe some cars.

Reason for the decision to use the chosen location:

We chose this location because it had the desolated atmosphere we had in mind for our film. The barren, dusty area was a perfect contrast to the forest surrounding it which meant we had two clearly different settings within close proximity. This allowed us to film both characters in their separate areas on the same day, as they were only a few minutes distance away, and the settings look very different to each other on camera. The open space is ideal for a musical as typically there is a stage or performance area, and the dusty area serves as this.

Time and date of shoot: 16th November 11:00, 23rd November 11:00
 Location: Tamar Trails

16th: Outdoor scenes on mound, mostly Tom’s part, dialogue scene
23rd: Kelly’s scenes in forest, walking to mound to meet Tom’s character

Sensible shoes, care taken when walking, especially when carrying equipment like tripod, take least steep route up mound as sand-like surface could fall away.
Final level acceptable?
Yes

I certify that this is a suitable risk assessment. Should there be any changes to the filming plan, date/time or location, the risk assessment will be amended as necessary.

It was important that we made a location recce as we did not want to turn up on the filming day and find out we were not able to film or not have the resources we needed. The risk assessment was also important, particularly as we were going to an area where aresenic contamination could be an issue. We did the assessment and warned everyone involved on the filming day to take the measures to reduce the risk.

Settings Board

This is a settings board created on Prezi containing pictures of our chosen setting and why we chose it.

Actors profiles

I am going to complete some actors profiles to show why I chose the actors to play each character and why they were appropriate to be in our project.

Audio Preparation

This is a video of our rehearsal the day before we recorded the song:

Our pianist Mia couldn't make it to the first rehearsal so I took a video of one run through of the song so she could see how it was sounding and we told her about it on Facebook.

This is a video of one version of the song from the recording day, complete with piano and drums:

Storyboards and Shot List

This is our first storyboard idea. We are going to use a lot of the shots from this storyboard but have since changed the story line.
